Take a step back and look back the long gone could be a way of escape from the anxious city. Let the memory stay. Hold it tight. If time starts again, where would the nostalgia begin? How did the core values grow? What is the essence that deserves upholding?

Tam returns to the corridor of history, searching the bygone shades and lights, looking for the lost treasures and hearing again the sound belonging to that time from the past. When he is working hard to consolidate his personal history from scattered memories, a fundamental question arouses: Where did the primeval consciousness come from? The search of FREEDOM from WITHIN among absurdity would probably be the best way to confront with the chaotic state.

對應當下社會的種種惶惑，或者可以後退一步，開始緬懷往昔，將一切留在記憶的懷裡，守護著。然而，將時間推回原點，自問那緬懷之情從何而來？當初的價值從何而生？堅守的是什麼的價值？譚偉平回到歷史的迴廊、尋找昔日的光影、尋回失散的舊物、回聽屬於那個年代的聲音，在梳理個人歷史的記憶中叩問：最初的意識從何而來？生於亂世，唯有在荒誕之中尋找內在的自由。

"sound in the city" series comprise three episodes to see our city by bringing invisible sound together with a mix of a variety of media. Subsequent to the first episode of "Shuffle Reality" by Keith Lam; second episode of "freedom_from_withinfreedom_from_withinIFIFIF" by Chow Yiu-fai and Justin Wong; the third episode of "Freedom from Within" by Tam Wai-ping will come thereafter. Through 'sound', a highly transmittable and fusible medium integrated in many creative disciplinary, such as virtuality, augmented reality in the cityscape, the imagery and the soundscape of the city will be formed. Integrating the means of science and aesthetics, audiences are to be reminded their relationship with the environment, be open for any imaginations about their life stories. Sound could bring us many possibilities and stories beyond vision.

「放浪城市」系列糅合了多種媒介，分三個部分與觀眾逐一用聽覺去觀察城市。首先是林欣傑的創作＜記憶的城市虛構的城市＞揭開序幕；接著有周耀輝、黃照達所合作的＜靜靜雞摘13個如果：靜漫一種＞帶領觀眾走進城市；最後以譚偉平的作品＜內在的自由＞作結。三個部分均藉着「聲音」與各創作領域多元融合，譬如：虛擬場域、城市中擴增實景，以設計城市中的音像。這種另類的聆聽方式融合科學與美學，提醒聽者與自身所處環境的關係，讓聲音打開人們對生活場域的多種想像，探索視覺以外的可能性。

Tam Wai-ping 譚偉平

Born in Hong Kong in 1967. Graduated from University of Reading in 1991, and completed his postgraduate study from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College of London in 1995. He is the chairman and one of the founders of Art Map. He serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tam's early work explores the definition of real, to search the situational difference between fact and reality. In face of the hardships in reality, he has been trying to find ways to contextualize history and contemporary life in which exploring the relationship between "Individual and Land" and leading to the investigation of "Modernity" in Asian values. The recent interest looks at the relationships between "Text", "Object" and "Image", it re-evaluates how art can serve as a cognitive experience.

Tam works in various media, and is notable for his photography, installation and environmental art. His works have been exhibited in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Macau, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland and the United States of America.

1967年出生於香港，1991年畢業於英國雷丁大學，並於1995年畢業於倫敦大學斯萊迪藝術學院之研究院。為藝術地圖之主席及創辦人之一。現任香港中文大學藝術系副教授。

譚氏的早期創作探索何謂真實，尋找事實與現實之間的差異境況；面對現實的困境，嘗試了解歷史和當代生活的脈絡，探討「人和土地」的關係及對亞洲「現代性」的研究。近年嘗試想像「文本」、「物件」和「影像」之關係，反思藝術如何作為一種認知的體驗。

譚氏以不同媒介創作，其中以攝影、裝置及環境藝術為主。曾於香港、中國、臺灣、澳門、日本、南韓、菲律賓、斯里蘭卡、澳大利亞、英國、法國、瑞士及美國等地展出。
